Feeling nostalgic. After the loss of our precious Willow, I've decided to share with you guys all the cats from our lives, even the cats from before smart phones! These cats (and our dogs too) have been such an inspiration to me and have helped shape my career path. They have provided me with photos, videos and most importantly unique experiences that have helped make me a better vet tech, behaviorist, groomer and educator. Each month I’ll attempt to feature a different family member! This will take me more than two years so please, meet our family in the stories below. I hope these stories inspire you to adopt, foster, donate or reach out for help to ensure your cat is living their best life!
Rescue one until there are none!
Iittala (Tallas)
On sofa, first few days home. Tallas, is what we most often called her. She was given to me by a previous employer as my Christmas bonus one year. My employer said, “You have rescued so many, you deserve to have your one dream cat” knowing I would never buy an animal. But you see, […]
Sunflower
Looking fancy and cute on her red blanket. Sunny is what we often called her; one of the names that was considered for Maple, before we decided we couldn’t let anyone else have her. We didn’t love that they wanted to name Maple, Sunny so that gave us just the little push we needed. But […]
Grant
Professional photo shoot! So glad we did this before we lost him. Grant Parkus Malarkus is what we called him. Oh, he was a wild one! Grant found us. The day after Thanksgiving one year (1999, I believe), Jake took Maple for a walk. He was cruisin’ up Grant Street when this black and tan […]
Mr. Wallace (OG-Wally)
Wallace looking terrified during the professional photo shoot. Mr. Wallace came to us under some pretty challenging circumstances. This story is a delicate one to tell. I will start by saying that not everyone in this profession is capable of rescuing and managing a lot of cats/animals. I sit here and share all of these […]
Lefty
The story of Lefty’s injuries, strife, rescue, and life after tragedy is no more unique or special than the stories of so many other cats you have heard about. In fact, his is an all too common tale. But Lefty was special to me, to us, to this family. He helped shape me into the […]
Charcoal
Charcoal was a beefy, thick unneutered male. He had those giant, hammerhead shark, intact male cheeks and was very well muscled throughout his body. I called him the “Pitbull of cats” because he was so muscular. He likely spent his days perusing the countryside wooing the lady kitties and then found himself caught and thrown […]
Kodiak Bears
A thoughtful pose taken during our professional photo shoot! Kodiak was brought into the practice where I was employed at the time. His original name was Issac. He had been abandoned outside of an apartment complex and brought in by a local cat rescue. He was a stunning cat, but Kodiak had some baggage. He […]
Freyja
Probably about 16 or 17 years old here! Freyja was honestly one of the kittens that drew the urge to keep the whole litter, I just thought she was so scrumptious. She grew up to be, what I think, was our most beautiful cat we have ever had. She lived up the goddess’s name we […]
Simon
Simon during professional photo shoot reaching for lure toy. Baby Simon and family. Simon the “sci-fi guy” was another one of Asia’s four kittens and littermate to Vader, Wick and Freyja. Having a seal point Siamese was certainly on my “dream cat” list. I thought I could never have one without purchasing one, which I […]
Wick better known as Wiccas
Wiccas was another one of Asia’s beautiful kittens. We were so lucky to not only get cats loaded with personality, super smart, chatty talkers but they were all stunning too! Well, they are cats, so hard for them to not be beautiful, I suppose. We named her Wick because of the little orange flame on […]
